Mount Zion's Sunday School - Club Ixthus
Our Sunday School program is named after the original Greek word (and fish symbol) used to identify Christians. Reflecting that spirit, Club Ixthus is dedicated to providing children from JK to Grade 6 with a meaningful learning program about their faith and heritage. The program is offered in an informal, fun, and caring environment.
Teacher volunteers, consisting of parents, confirmation class students and other members of the congregation, are enthusiastic as they take turns leading our three groups of classes: Pre-Elementary (JK-SK), Grades 1,2&3 and Grades 4, 5&6, from September to May. (Through the summer, children join their families at Sunday services.)
The Club Ixthus curriculum, ‘Spark', gives our children a good overview of the Biblical Stories of Faith. Learning takes on a very interactive feel in the classrooms, through participation in such things as the acting out of Bible stories, music and related crafts.
Club Ixthus begins 15 minutes before worship so that the children, after their class, can join the congregation for worship. They do so during the Hymn of the Day and remain in worship for the rest of the service including the Holy Communion. In addition, children are invited to take part in special services – such as the annual Children’s Christmas Service.
In the spirit of community and giving, the children are encouraged to participate in the charitable programs supported by Mount Zion, i.e. gathering food for the Food Bank, mittens for a mitten tree and items for ‘We Care’ bags.
Your children are invited to be part of Club Ixthus! For details about times and class programs, please contact us!
