Worship & Music
Welcome to Sunday worship at Mount Zion! Our worship service times change with the seasons (usually, Sunday worship services are held every week at 8:45 & 10:45 a.m. For the summer, we change to one service at 10:00 a.m.) But whatever the time or season, our welcome to you doesn’t change…
You will be welcomed by greeters at the door, by ushers ready to seat you and by members offering a hand in friendship. Children are always welcome. Sunday School is available during the worship service or children can remain with you during the service. (There is also a comfortably furnished nursery for babies and toddlers if you wish to use it.) The last Sunday of each month is an Affirmation Service where children stay with us throughout the service and participate in our congregational worship life.
Holy Communion is celebrated every Sunday. Our worship is “liturgical” which means literally, “the people’s work”. We follow an order of liturgy - shared words and sung verses - so we all participate. Liturgical worship is a drama, and we are all actors in it. The story is of Jesus revealing God’s love to us through Word and Sacraments (taking ordinary things and infusing them with God’s word of promise). As with God’s love, there are no “conditions.” All are welcome to commune at Christ’s table.
Our pastors, the Rev. Tanya Ramer and the Rev. Krister Ulmanis, are respected for their thought and action provoking sermons. Through humour, dedicated research, Biblical context, personal anecdotes and commitment to their roles as spiritual leaders, they give each listener a message to ponder at home throughout the week.
And being Lutheran, music is central to our worship, and singing together is central to our music (And yes, we consider humming a gift too!). We use many different musical styles ranging from songs of the global church in Africa and Latin America, to German chorales that were sung and written by Martin Luther. Music Director Scott Knarr is equally comfortable at the Guilbault-Thérien pipe organ and the Yamaha grand piano.
Congregational members also play important parts in leading our worship experience. Lay leadership includes participation as greeters, ushers, readers, assisting ministers, communion assistants, choir members and musicians.
An elevator and people-friendly building facilities also offer a welcome – as do large print Sunday bulletins and hymns, hearing assistance devices and a fragrance free environment.
We are a people place for people who want to worship. And we hope you will visit us soon. For more information on worship schedules and current activities, please call us: (519) 886-5820. Welcome!
