Food Card Ministry

Mount Zion purchases and distributes food cards to needy individuals and families in Waterloo Region. Individuals or representatives of families who are registered with our program come to the church entryway at specified times in the week of the third Thursday of the month to pick up cards that can be redeemed at local grocery stores.  Volunteers distribute the cards with friendly greetings and information on community sources of food and housing aid.   The pandemic, recent waves of immigration and food inflation have meant that the need continues to be great.  Although we have not registered new recipients in 2022 or 2023,  the total expenditure increased in 2022 year over year by 14%.   Congregational members strongly support the program with donations.

Music for the Spirit - Logo.jpg

Music for the Spirit holds a special place in the hearts of many at Mount Zion. The  program began from the desire of members of the Six Nations of the Grand River Anglican Parish to use the creative arts to give opportunities for young people  to express their identity and learn musical skills.

Through group music learning, singing and playing Music for the Spirit nurtures self-esteem and self-image, acceptance for self and others, and builds a sense of respect for each community member.
