All Saints Sunday
LIGHTING OF CANDLES
All Saints Sunday is a day when we remember all the faithful who have gone before us and thank God that, by His mercy, He received us all into eternal life with Him.

The white banner and paraments symbolize purity, light and joy.People around the world celebrate All Saints' Day in many different ways. Some light candles, some lay flowers, and others prepare and cook feasts for the departed souls.

At Mount Zion, we remembered those who departed last year by lighting candles.

Members of the congregation also lit a candle in memory of cherished loved ones.

Mount Zion  remembered  these members who passed this year between October 2024 and Nov 2025

Mount Zion’s Caribbean Christmas Party - Nov 21 6:00 pm

Tickets for Mount Zion’s Caribbean Christmas Party are available on Sundays in the narthex for the Saturday night event.  It’s time to enjoy a traditional Turkey Dinner embellished with the tastes of the Caribbean. It’s time to sing Christmas songs and carols and enjoy the music of the Acoustic Steel Band. It's time to sing the Twelve Days of Christmas, a Mount Zion tradition.

Funds raised from this event support the expenses of February’s Black History Month Celebrations and our scholarship program. Come out and enjoy the food and welcome the Christmas season.

As with all our events, we need many hands to help with cooking, setting up, or cleaning up. Volunteering for this event is a fun way to meet new people and support your church with a few hours of your time.   Please see the sign-up sheets in the narthex for details

November 21: Mount Zion’s Caribbean Christmas Party

Doors Open – 5:30 pm

Dinner - 6:00 pm

Cost - $50 Per person (Kids under 12 are free)

Mount Zion’s SHOW Fundraiser Racing Along

As of October 30, our Mount Zion campaign to raise funds for “landscaping for wellness” for the SHOW modular housing project is going well, with $0000000 raised toward the $9,000 challenge goal!

On Sunday November 8 at 11:30 am we will host a screening of the short film “Unhoused, Unheard and Unbroken — The realities of homelessness in older adults"  presented by SHOW Executive Director Brian Paul, and a Q&A discussion period will follow.  All are welcome!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who continues to support our food card distribution, especially as we head into the holiday season! Mary Thompson, Justice Through Service Committee

Music Notes

Sarah Storms continues to provide excellent direction for the choir as we head into November and the Advent and Christmas Seasons.

Of special note: On November 22 (Christ the King), the choir will sing Stephanie Martin's "Missa Brevis in Three Voices". Stephanie Martin is a Waterloo native and the daughter of Abner Martin, who founded the Menno Singers and the Mennonite Massed Choir.

The Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus, and Agnus Dei will be sung where they occur in the liturgy.

Her choral and instrumental compositions are performed internationally. Her music has a serene quality, with roots in plainchant and Renaissance music. Sarah Cardwell

Midweek Advent Services

We will not be holding midweek Advent services this year due to the lack of congregational interest last year. We imagine this was due to many people's increasing reluctance to venture out after dark, especially in the winter season.

Those who wish to continue attending Advent evening worship this year are welcome to attend our regular Vesper’s services, which occur on Zoom every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening and feature “Holden Evening Prayer,” which many hold dear, as well as a meaningful message and discussion. The link can be found on the Home Page of our website: https://www.mzlc.ca/”   Bill Gastmeier, Worship and Music

German Service of Carols and Readings

The German Service of Carols and Readings will be held this year on December 19th at 3:00 pm. Pastor Peter Kuhnert will preside, and Sarah Cardwell will accompany us, along with special music. Please contact Henriette Stumper if you have questions or would like to participate.

We often hear that the service is appreciated and meaningful. If you are a member of a German Club or other organization, please consider asking them to invite their members.

Your Worship and Music Committee.

A Lutheran-Anglican Conversation about Changing MAID legislation in Canada

Waterloo Lutherans and Anglicans are invited to discuss changing MAID legislation in 2027.

Participants will discuss the development of current MAID legislation in Canada, with a focus on the three proposed expansions to MAID legislation in 2027- MAID by advanced directive, MAID for Canadians under the age of 18 years, and MAID for Canadians where their sole underlying medical condition is a psychiatric condition. We will consider Lutheran and Anglican responses to current MAID legislation and also to the proposed expansions to the legislation. This event is intended for Lutheran and Anglican members of Tri-City congregations of either the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada or the Anglican Church of Canada.
