Community and Social Services Worker

Education:                        Participating in or Completed a Post Secondary Program of Study

 

The Community and Social Services Worker will assist program staff and volunteers and bring their musical and digital and social media expertise to enhance existing community outreach and social services activities.

The successful candidate will produce audio and video materials and real time streams supporting Sunday morning broadcasts via Zoom and You Tube to the Mount Zion and broader communities; contribute to our Online Communications (website, newsletter, Facebook Page); and assist seniors and others to adopt new technologies to enable their inclusion and participation.  

Depending on the implications/constraints of the current Covid outbreak, the candidate may also:

1)            Work with our "Mount Zion Cafe" which provides meaningful social interaction opportunities for Seniors from neighbourhood and wider communities.

2)            Work with our "Open Sesame " headstart preschool program which among other things provides group sessions in singing and music to help connect the teachers with young children on the autism spectrum and their families.

3)            Assist in organizing, promoting and maintaining our Community Programs which in the past have included an indoor concert series and an outdoor Festival "Summer Sounds and Spices" which facilitates relationships with community members to attract and present shows from cultural communities represented in the City of Waterloo.

4)            Engage in a special project that is inspired by the candidate and self-driven, with the purpose of enhancing the life and work at Mount Zion and the wider community.

Skills/Experience: Digital and Social Media Platforms, Music, Organizational Activities, Microsoft Office including Power Point, Basic desktop publishing and graphic arts experience, Basic audio and video recording and reproduction, oral and written communications with the general public, working with volunteer groups. Listening and responding to the needs of vulnerable persons, young children and seniors.

Potential Program of Study: Music, Community Music, Communications Technology, Music Therapy, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Early Childhood Education, Social Work.
